          Wow, I didn't know that moment starts here. Conquer words, conquer the world. Today we have 35 A words with meanings, example sentences, synonyms, and a quiz at the end. The first eight A words are amiable, amicable, amity, amorous, amateur, amigo, enamored and paramore.

    They all have their roots in the Latin Ammer meaning to love or amicus meaning friend. In Roman mythology, Cupid, the god of love, was also called amore. You have heard of words like ammy, French for friend, and amigo, which is Spanish for friend. Our first eight words are connected in some way to love and friendship. Okay.

   My suggestion to you, take a notebook, write each one of these words down and try to create your own sentences. Then use these words in your regular conversation or in your writings. That is the only way to really improve your vocabulary. Plus you will also ace the quiz that is at the end of this lesson. Okay, let's begin with those eight words having the root ami. A amiable.

   Amiable means someone with a friendly manner. We use this to describe people who are pleasant and friendly. Example, she was so amiable that everyone in the office loved working with her. Some synonyms for amiiable are aphable, genial, cordial, warm, pleasant, goodnatured, and friendly. Next is amicable. Amicable describes a situation, relationship, or an agreement that is friendly, peaceful, and free of conflict.

   Remember amiiable was for people but amicable is used for a situation, a relationship or an agreement. Example, the divorce was surprisingly amicable with both parties agreeing on terms. In law, an amicable settlement means that a dispute has been resolved peacefully without any conflict. They also use the phrase to part on amicable terms.

   Now synonyms for amicable are harmonious, peaceful, cooperative, agreeable, cordial and congenial. The next word is amity. Amity refers to a friendly relationship like peaceful harmony or friendship. You've also heard of a university with this name. Example, the two nations signed a treaty to promote peace and amity.

   Synonyms for amity are friendship, harmony, goodwill, camaraderie, peace, concord. Next is amorous. Amoras describes feelings or actions related to romantic or sexual love. This is not about fondness or friendliness like we saw in amity. Amorus is more about the physical or romantic expressions of love uh such as gestures, glances or relationships.

   The couple shared an amorous glance across the room. A commonly used term is amorous advances. She politely declined his amorous advances, explaining she wasn't interested. Synonyms for amorous are romantic, passionate, loving, affectionate, erotic and tender. Word number five is amateur. The word amateur has an interesting story.

   You know in the earlier days, an amateur sports person or musician was someone who engaged in the activity for love rather than for professional reasons. Like Muhammad Ali the boxer was an amateur boxer when he went into the Olympics. In those days it was a matter of pride that someone could follow their passion. In fact professionals were often looked down on. Now over time this has changed.

   Today money is equal to talent is equal to success. So the meaning of the word amateur has also changed with time. Amateurish now means inexperienced, unskilled, almost clumsy and bungling. Example, he's a rank amateur when it comes to cooking, but he's eager to learn. Rank amateur means     Now, synonyms for amateur are novice, beginner, enthusiast, dabbler, and non-professional. Our next word is amigo. A casual term for a friend borrowed from Spanish. Amigos is the plural for a group of friends. You may have heard adios amigos meaning goodbye friends. Hey, leave the girl. Look at our boy. Hola amigo.

   Let's grab a coffee after work. Synonyms for amigo are friend, companion, pal, buddy, mate, confidant. Our next word is enamored. Filled with love and admiration. Now, this need not be romantic love. It could be just pure admiration for someone also. You could just be fascinated with someone. Example, she was enamored with the idea of traveling the world or he was completely enamored by her intelligence and charm.

    Synonyms for enamored are infatuated, captivated, charmed, smitten, fond, and adoring. Our next word or last word in this group of eight is paramore. a lover, especially the illicit partner of a married person. The scandal revealed that the politician had a secret paramore. Usually the word secret or forbidden is used with paramore.

    Synonyms for paramore are lover, mistress, sweetheart, bow, flame. Now try making sentences with these words. And now our next eight words are asserbic, acrid, acrimony, acute, acuity, accuminate, acumen, exacerbate.

    Now they all have the roots acer and acris. All these roots mean sharp or bitter or pungent. All words with these roots have meanings relating to sharpness, bitterness or acidity. Let's take a look. Aserbic. Asserbic is about speech. Someone's words or tone being sharp or biting. Think of acid tongue like biting acid. Hm.

    Her ass asbic wit made her a formidable debater. It means her jokes were biting and had a sharp tone to them. Synonyms for asserbic are sharp, biting, costic. Word number 10 is accurate. Acurid is about the actual physical sensation like bitter or sharp smell or taste as sick was about the speech whereas acrid is the actual acidic smell or taste.

     The acrid smoke from the burning tires fill the air. People often also say something is acurid smelling. The acurid smelling liquid was used in the experiment or acid tasting. The medicine was acrid tasting and it's making it very difficult for me to have it. Synonyms for acrid are bitter, pungent and harsh. Our next word is acrimony.

   Acrimony is about bitterness in relationships, feelings or interactions that lead to conflict. Aserbic remember was about bitterness of speech. Acrid was about the physical sensations of sharpness and bitter. Acrimony is about having bitter or bad feelings, bad relationships and bad maybe speech and behavior too.

    Example, well, if there is too much acrimony in a marriage, it will lead to a divorce and alimony. It can also be used as an adjective. For example, the divorce was long and accus. Synonyms for acrimmony are bitterness, hostility, rancor, ill will. Our next word is acute. Acute in triangles there are acute angles and obtuse angles.

      And the acute angles are less than 90°. They are sharp and pointy. The word acute is not about being cute. It means about this being sharp or pointy or intense. It's often used to describe sharp physical pain or intense emotions or situations. She felt an acute pain in her side after the fall or you could say uh acute in a positive manner too.

     His acute sense of hearing allowed him to detect even the faintest sounds which means sharp sense of hearing. Acute observation means a very good specific pointed observation. Accuminate means tapering to a fine point like physical sharpness like you know acute and acuity were about mental sharpness. Accuminate is about that physical sharp point. Think of it as acue plus terminate which means it ends sharply.

    The leaves were accuminate ending in a sharp tip or the accuminate tip of the knife made it perfect for precision work. Synonyms could be tapering, pointed, sharp. Word number 15 is acumen. Acumen is the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions. It's literally like sharpness of mind.

    It's often used in contexts like business, politics, and art to describe someone's expertise and insight. Her business acumen helped the company grow exponentially or his political acumen allowed him to build alliances across party lines. Synonyms for acumen are insight, astuteness, perceptiveness, intelligence. And our next word is exacerbate.

    Exacerbate is to make a problem or a feeling worse. It focuses on intensifying or worsening a situation, often through sharp or bitter actions. Our next five words are adapt, aptitude, apt, adept, and inept. All these words have the roots apt and at from the Latin word aptus which means fit, suitable or appropriate.

     Like apt is a short form of appropriate anyway. So words with these roots all have meanings of fitness, ability or suitability. Adapt. Adapt means to adjust to new conditions or environments. The focus is on adjusting or changing to fit into a new situation. How plants and animals develop certain adaptations to fit into their environment.

    The way cacti have thorns and camels have humps. Think of it as add just to fit. Add adapt. Now adaptation is a word from adapt. She had to adapt quickly to the fast-paced work environment. Adaptable is an adjective and describes someone or something. And that someone or something is flexible, adjustable, and easygoing.

    Synonyms for adapt are adjust, modify, alter, and accommodate. Our next word is aptitude. Aptitude means natural ability or skill or suitability in a particular area. It means a person's natural ability fits perfectly with the requirements of that field. Example, he has a natural aptitude for mathematics. So his natural ability and what is required in the field are fitting in.

    Synonyms for aptitude are tendency, inclination, ability and proficiency. Next is apt. Apt means something is fitting, appropriate or suitable. Again, having a natural tendency towards something. Think of apt as a perfect fit. Example, her remarks were apt for the occasion. Synonyms for apt are appropriate, befitting. Okay.

     Word number 20 is adept. Adept describes someone who is highly skilled or proficient or maybe an expert in a particular area. Synonyms for adept are skilled, proficient, expert, capable, a draw and dextrous. Our next word is inept.

    Inept is the opposite of adept. It describes someone who is unskilled or clumsy and they lack actually skill and competence. His inept handling of the situation made things worse.     Our next words are ambiguous, ambidextrous, ambivalent, amphibian, amphitheater, ambience, ambi and ambit. These words all have roots ambi which is Latin and amphi which is Greek and they mean both or on both sides or around. Now these words often imply duality, uncertainty or something surrounding or encompassing.

     Think both sides or around and then you'll get there. Let's look at the word ambiguous. Ambiguous means open to more than one interpretation. It means it's unclear or uncertain. The instructions were ambiguous. So no one knew exactly what to do. When we say that someone's instructions are ambiguous, it means that they're open to multiple interpretations.

    Either you could do one thing or you could do the other thing. You get so confused, ambiguous. One trick to remember this word is to think of it as ambi plus guess, which means both plus guess. You have to guess between both options. Her answer was deliberately ambiguous to avoid taking sides. Synonyms for ambiguous are vague, unclear, equivocal, indefinite, and obscure. Our next word is ambidextrous.

   Let's break that down. The word ambidextrous. Well, dextrous means to be skillful. Okay, ambidextrous means that they are skillful at using both hands equally well. Think of ambi as both and dexterity is equal to skilled with hands. So skilled with both hands. Being ambidextrous, he could write equally well with his left and right hands.

    Synonyms for ambidextrous are two-handed, versatile, adaptable. Next is ambivalent. Let's break this down. Ambivalent. Valent comes from valency. In chemistry, valency is a combining power or the capacity of an atom to form chemical bonds. Now, being ambivalent means that you have mixed feelings or you are multiple contradictory ideas about something or someone.

    You're unsure about whether to bond with them or not. Think of it as ambi plus valentine which means can't decide between the two valentines. Now she felt ambivalent about the job offer. It paid well but required moving to another city. So she couldn't make up her mind. Synonyms for ambivalent are uncertain, indecisive, conflicted, torn, equivocal. Okay.

    Word number 25 is amphibian. You know amphibians from biology. A frog is an amphibian, a coldblooded animal that lives both on land and on water. Now frogs are amphibians because they start their lives in water as a tadpole and then later they start living on land. So amphibian means again both living on both or two different surfaces. Our next word is amphitheater.

   Let's break down amphitheater. No, let's not literally break down an amphitheater, but let's break down the word. The root amphi means around or on both sides. And theater is a place for viewing. So when you combine them, what does it give you? An amphitheater literally means it's a place for viewing something on all sides.

    So the viewers there's some sort of event happening in the center typically like a circular or an oval arena and on all sides the audiences in tears and seats are surrounding it. Imagine the Roman amphitheaters where gladiator fights took place. That's an amphitheater. Next is ambiance. Ambience is the vibe or mood of a place.

    The root ambi uh implies something that is around or encompassing. So ambiance refers to the mood or feel that surrounds a place and it's created by the physical and sensory elements like lighting, sounds and decor. Think of it as ambi meaning around plus sense means what you sense around you.

    So it gives you the vibe of the place. The restaurant had a cozy ambiance with a soft lighting and gentle music. Synonyms for ambiencece are atmosphere, vibe, mood, aura, environment. Our next word is ambiivert. Uh you know extrovert and you know introvert. Now what if a person was both? So ami means both. Both extroverted and introverted.

    a bit like amphibians living both on land and in water like ambidextrous using left hand and right hand equally skillfully. You get the drift. So an ambivert is both an introvert and an extrovert. As an ambivert she enjoys socializing but also values her alone time. Our next word is ambit.

   Ambbit is the scope, the extent, the range, the boundary of something. Uh like encompassing is its limits or its extent. The root ambi means to go around or on all sides. Think of it as ambi plus limit. So the limits around something is the ambit. The company's ambit of operations extended to several countries which means the scope or range of operations extended to several countries. Okay.

     Our final set of six words are audible, audit, audience, auditorium, auditory and audition. Now you know that these words all come from the root o or audi from the Latin aire which means to hear or to listen. Words derived from this root would relate to the act of hearing, listening or sound. Word number 30 is audible. Audible means able to be heard.

    Think of it as odd plus able. Able to be heard. Audible. Am I audible? Can you hear me? Synonyms are hearable, perceptible, discernable, clear. Our next word is audit. You know what audit is? It is the financial audit. The official inspection of a company's accounts typically by an independent body.

    Now, you've seen an audit firm signing off on the books of accounts. But how is this related to hearing? There is an interesting story here. The word audit comes from the Latin word auditors which means hearing or listening. In ancient times, financial records were often read aloud to auditors or listeners who would verify their accuracy by hearing them.

  This practice of hearing the accounts is the origin of the word audit. Now, in modern times, audits no longer involve listening to accounts. Nobody's reading them aloud. But this term has retained its connection to the root through its historical context and we still call it an audit.

    Example, the company's financial records were subjected to an external audit to ensure accuracy. Synonyms for audit are inspection, examination, review, and scrutiny. Our next word is audience. Audience is a is a group of people who gather to listen or to watch a performance, a speech or an event. Think of it as audi which means here and ends like presence.

    So the listeners present are the audience. Okay. The audience applauded loudly at the end of the play. Synonyms for audience are spectators, listeners, viewers, crowd, assembly. Our next word is auditorium. Auditorium is a large room or building where people get together to hear speeches, performances, and other events.

    The school auditorium was packed for the annual talent show. Next is auditory. Auditory means relating to the sense of hearing. Hearing auditory the auditory nerves transmit sound signals to the brain. Think of it as audi plus story. So listening to a story. Auditory. The synonyms are oral, acoustic and anything hearing related. Our final word is audition

           Audition is a trial performance by an actor, singer or musician to you know to demonstrate their suitability for a role or maybe for a position like you may audition for a movie. Example, she prepared for weeks for her audition for the lead role in the play. Synonyms for audition are a try out, a test, a screen test.
